Tuning Packages

  • Stage 1 — ECU Remap
ECU remap only, no hardware changes required. Typical gains of 15-30% power increase working with your standard hardware. Ideal for daily drivers wanting noticeably more performance without compromising reliability. Example results: Subaru STI from 300bhp to 340-360bhp, Mitsubishi Evo from 280bhp to 320-340bhp.
  • Stage 2 — Remap + Hardware
ECU remap paired with an upgraded exhaust (turbo-back or cat-back), performance intake, and optional boost controller. Typical gains of 25-40% over stock. This is where Japanese turbocharged engines really start to come alive. Example results: Subaru STI to 380-400bhp, Toyota 2JZ Supra to 400-450bhp.
  • Stage 3+ — Full Build
Turbo upgrade, larger injectors, uprated fuel pump, front-mount intercooler, and standalone ECU or piggyback management. Every map is custom-written on our dyno. For serious builds targeting 400-600+ bhp. Forged internals are recommended for anything above factory power limits to ensure long-term reliability.
  • Custom Builds — Bespoke Packages
One-off engine and turbo packages built for competition, drag racing, or time attack. No off-the-shelf maps — every element is designed, assembled, and tuned specifically for your car and its intended use. Contact us to discuss your project.

Our Tuning Process

  • 1. Baseline Dyno Run
We start every job with a baseline dyno run to measure your current power and torque figures. This gives us an accurate starting point and highlights any existing issues before we begin.
  • 2. Vehicle Health Check
Before any tuning work, we carry out a full health check — compression test, boost leak test, and fuelling inspection. There is no point remapping an engine that has underlying problems.
  • 3. Hardware Installation
For Stage 2 and above, we install all supporting hardware — exhaust, intake, intercooler, injectors, fuel pump, or turbo — before mapping. Everything is fitted properly and checked for leaks and clearance.
  • 4. ECU Remapping
A custom map is written on our rolling road, tailored to your exact setup. We adjust fuelling, ignition timing, boost pressure, and cam timing to extract maximum safe power from your engine and hardware combination.
  • 5. Post-Tune Dyno Runs
After the remap, we carry out multiple dyno runs to verify the gains, check air-fuel ratios across the rev range, and confirm boost levels are stable and within safe limits.
  • 6. Road Test & Final Adjustments
Every tuned car gets a thorough road test to check driveability, throttle response, and real-world performance. We make final adjustments to ensure the car drives as well on the road as it performs on the dyno.

Platforms We Tune

As a JDM and Subaru specialist, we have deep experience tuning Japanese performance engines. These are the platforms we work with regularly at our Bedford dyno facility:

  • Subaru EJ20 / EJ25 — WRX, STI (all generations). Our most tuned platform. Stage 1 through full forged builds.
  • Nissan RB20 / RB25 / RB26 — Skyline R32, R33, R34. Single and twin-turbo configurations.
  • Nissan SR20DET — Silvia S13, S14, S15, 200SX. Excellent response to tuning modifications.
  • Toyota 2JZ-GE / 2JZ-GTE — Supra, Aristo, Soarer. Legendary platform for high-power builds.
  • Mitsubishi 4G63 — Evo IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX. Direct competitor to the STI and equally rewarding to tune.
  • Mitsubishi 4B11T — Evo X. Modern turbo platform with excellent ECU tuning potential.
  • Mazda 13B Rotary — RX-7 FD3S, FC3S. Specialist rotary tuning and porting.
  • Honda K20 / B18 — Integra Type R, Civic Type R. Naturally aspirated and turbo conversions.

Why Specialist Tuning Matters

Many general tuning shops use off-the-shelf maps downloaded from a database and flashed onto your ECU in minutes. These generic maps are written for a "typical" car and do not account for your specific hardware, mileage, altitude, fuel quality, or mechanical condition. The result is often a car that feels faster but is running dangerously lean or overboosting — problems that may not show up immediately but will shorten engine life significantly.

Japanese turbocharged engines have specific characteristics that require specialist knowledge. The Subaru EJ25, for example, is known for ringland failures when tuned improperly. The RB26 needs careful attention to fuel pressure at high boost. The 4G63 responds well to aggressive timing but only with proper knock detection in place. We understand these engines because we have been building and tuning them at our Bedford workshop since 2006 — not because we read about them online.

Proper ECU remapping is about reliability as much as power. Every custom map we write on our dyno is developed with safe air-fuel ratios, conservative boost margins, and proper knock thresholds. We would rather give you 10bhp less and an engine that lasts 100,000 miles than chase headline figures that lead to a rebuild in six months. That is the difference between a specialist tuner and a generic remap service.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much does an ECU remap cost?
Stage 1 ECU remaps start from around £300-£500 depending on the platform and ECU type. Stage 2 remaps with hardware installation are typically £800-£1,500 including the map. Custom dyno tuning for Stage 3+ builds is quoted on a per-project basis. Contact us with your car details for an accurate quote.
  • Will tuning void my warranty?
Any ECU modification can potentially affect a manufacturer warranty. However, most JDM cars we tune are outside their original warranty period. If your car is still under warranty, we can discuss the options and risks with you before proceeding. Some Stage 1 maps can be reverted to stock if needed.
  • How much power can my car make?
This depends entirely on the platform, current modifications, and how far you want to go. A Stage 1 Subaru STI typically sees 340-360bhp. A fully built 2JZ Supra can make 700bhp or more. We will give you realistic expectations based on your budget, goals, and the condition of your engine.
  • Do you tune on a dyno?
Yes. All our custom maps are written and refined on our rolling road dyno at our Bedford facility. We do not use generic maps or remote flash services. Dyno tuning allows us to monitor power, torque, air-fuel ratios, and boost in real time, ensuring your car is safe and performing at its best.
  • Is Stage 1 safe for a daily driver?
Absolutely. A well-written Stage 1 remap on a healthy engine is one of the safest and most cost-effective modifications you can make. We keep boost levels, fuelling, and timing within conservative margins specifically to maintain reliability for daily driving. Many of our customers drive their Stage 1 tuned cars every day without any issues.
